We are well into dry season now, and there is a big difference in the landscape around here. Dry season started in December and will go until May. However, it's different in other parts of Costa Rica. We noticed on our trip to Panama, for example, that over on Costa Rica's Caribbean side, the vegetation was much greener and there was more rain. Here are a couple rainy season versus dry season photos so you can see the difference.

With the scarcity of rain, the ground is a lot dustier as well. Much of the vegetation, as well as our car, seems to be covered in a constant layer of dust. Everything simply looks thirsty, and I'm sure that when May rolls around the plants will be ready to drink it all up.
Granted, the dry season is still much greener than Utah's winter. But the difference is still significant. On our Panama trip, I was reminded of the contrast. When we went through a mountain pass, we saw the green stretching from the grass lining the freeways, up the canyon walls in the trees and bushes and climbing stories high out of the rock face. It was simply breathtaking, and I remembered how it used to be around here.
Still, though, we see some pretty new splashes of color appearing in their season. And I love that with dry afternoons, the kids can spend more time playing outside.
